Whether you’re on a road trip with friends or throwing a barbeque in the backyard with family, a Weber camping BBQ is the perfect addition to take with you when outdoors. The streamlined design makes it easy to set up and carry with you when travelling. It’s an easy way to prepare and enjoy your meal at the beach or park, or in the mountains or bush.
The Weber BBQ also enhances the cooking, so you won’t have to compromise on flavour and the quality of your cooking when it comes to meats and veggies, giving you that sear taste that’s so popular. If you’re barbecuing outdoors, it is usually hard to maintain and clean, but with a Weber BBQ, it’s made for super easy washing up, packing up and maintenance. Its quality and accessibility are why it’s so popular amongst many people, especially campers. Who wouldn’t love a good feed outdoors?
Why Are Weber BBQs So Good?
They’re Portable & Easy to Travel With & Take Everywhere
The Weber BBQ comes in various sizes to ensure that everyone can find one to suit their needs. Popular sizes include:
The Weber Baby Q
With a cooking area of 1200 cm2, and a roasting hood height of 13 cm, the Baby Q can comfortably feed two to four people, without taking up too much space in your camping luggage. Plus, it only weighs just 10 kg, so it’s super portable and easy to set up.
The Weber Q2000
The next level up, the Q2000 is for smaller gatherings with four to six people. The larger cooking area of 1800 cm2 and increased hood height of 14 cm means you can cook a range of meat and vegetables to satisfy everyone’s cravings. However, this bigger size doesn’t mean a huge increase in weight. The Q2000 comes in at a light 16 kgs, so it too is perfect for taking away on holiday too.
Weber Q Family
If you’re looking to host a BBQ party, then you need the Q Family. Its huge cooking area of 2400 cm2 and roasting hood height of 18 cm means it can easily cook all the food you need to serve six or more people. This does come at the cost of making it a little less portable, but only a little! The Q Family weighs in at an impressively light 34 kg, so definitely is still a contender to come with you on trips.
They Have Great Temperature Range
With a Weber, you won’t be left with half-cooked sausages and blue steaks. All Webers can operate at temperatures from 95 to 290ºC to ensure you get that sizzle.
They’re More Than Just a Grill
As great as barbeque is, sometimes you’re craving something else. But, if you’ve got a Weber, that isn’t a problem! The Weber can also cook using indirect heat to roast and bake your favourite meals, just use the convection tray and you can cook at temperatures from 75 to 230ºC.
They’re Easy to Clean & Maintain
Your Weber camping BBQ has removable parts, like the gas tube, valve and grills, to make it easier to get in there and clean properly. You can even put them in the dishwasher! After a cooking session, it can be tempting to throw the parts and accessories into the dishwasher, however, it’s recommended not to throw them in straight away. We recommend removing as much grease and remaining food beforehand and washing everything with warm water. This helps ensure that your Weber comes out of the dishwasher sparkling clean. Handwashing the parts of your Weber with a gentle non-citrus based soap is the best option though and will make your BBQ last longer for many years of tasty meals.
Even better, the Weber comes with specially designed cleaning accessories. These are especially helpful and made just for your Weber. Other cleaning items may damage your Weber, so we recommend using Weber-specific products such as the BBQ scraper, Weber grill brush and grill cleaning spray.
They’re Long Lasting
The materials used to construct your Weber camping BBQ range from stainless steel to cast iron porcelain enamel to cast aluminium. All these materials are top quality and highly durable, so you can get many happy years of use out of your Weber. It also ensures that your Weber retains heat well to consistently and evenly cook your food, and it is also rust-resistant!
Along with being made from excellent materials, your Weber BBQ comes with a great warranty. Depending on your Weber model, your camping BBQ may be covered under warranty anywhere under 5 to 10 years. With a warranty this great, you know it has to be a top-notch product.
There’s One for Every Budget
Good things shouldn’t just be for those with a spare bit of cash. That’s why Weber has a range of BBQs to suit every price range. Plus, when you consider how much use you get out of them, they’re an excellent investment.
You Can Choose Your Power Source
How you cook your food and on what sort of flame can affect the taste, as all good barbequers know. Thankfully, the Weber range is available with both gas-powered and charcoal-flamed versions, so you can get that flavour you’re craving.
They Fold Down for Easy Storage
Your traditional barbeques are big and bulky, taking up desirable outdoor space or hulking in your garage. It’s not so with the Weber though. The Weber BBQ can be folded down for easy storage. This also makes it perfect for taking away as a camping BBQ.
Tips for Taking Your Weber BBQ Camping
No doubt you’re keen to bring a Weber BBQ with you next time you’re camping, so here’s our tips to get the most out of it.
Buy One That Suits Your Needs
Along with considering your cooking requirements, it’s important to keep in mind features like size, fuel and weight to ensure you can easily transport and use your Weber. This includes remembering to bring any fuel you need or finding out if your campsite will have ready access, and making sure you can use that fuel where you are camping.
Bring Your Accessories
The right accessories for your Weber BBQ can really take your cooking to the next level. You have the option to smoke, roast or even bake your food. So, buying and bringing the right accessories can help make the most out of your barbeque. For instance, using mounting accessories to mount your gas bottle is a smart way to save space when you don’t have much storage, especially when you’re on a road trip. Further, don’t forget to bring those cleaning accessories to keep your Weber pristine even when you’re cooking with it every day.
Plan Your Packing
Speaking of storage, make sure you plan ahead when it comes to storage and space for everything you’re taking camping, along with your Weber. Think about how you will fit everything in your car and how best to add your Weber to the mix so you aren’t left struggling to pack the car on the first day of your trip.

Getting the Most Out of Your Weber at Home or Camping
While we’re sure you’re an expert barbeque cook, getting the hang of cooking on a Weber can take a little practice. But these tips will help you become a Weber whiz!
- Preheating when grilling can help prevent food from sticking to the grill, and this will also allow you to have a nice sear on your food.
- When preheating the grill, close the lid for at least 10–15 minutes to speed up cooking time and hit that ideal temperature sooner.
- Always use the proper cleaning tools on your grill.
- Heat the grill after cooking to remove excess oils and food particles
- Make sure to remove any pieces of food before soaking in warm water.
- Make sure to hand wash all parts first before dishwashing.
- Re-oil the grill from time to time and then reheat the grill to seal it.
- Keep the bowl of your Weber BBQ clean.
- Clean the burner tube every 3–5 months.
- Turn food only once so it doesn’t ruin the quality or give you a burnt finish.
- Make sure to keep the lid on as much as possible so there are no flare-ups that can burn your food. This will help keep the cooking temperature consistent too.
- If flare-ups do occur, make sure to remove food, then once the fire dies down, place your food onto the grill again.
